Renault Dealer - Make Sure You Choose the Right One

There are few vehicles in the world today that have as storied a history across Europe as the Renault. Founded in the late 1890s, Renault has set the stage for many car companies that came later. Pioneering superior engineering, craftsmanship and design, there are few vehicles -- and car companies -- that can even begin to compare to the superiority of a Renault. As such, when you are in the market for a new car, you need to make sure that the Renault dealer you choose to buy your new car from, is just as superior as the products they are selling.

Your Renault dealer should be professional, courteous and have the proper product knowledge so that no matter what question you can think to ask, the answer will be forthcoming and correct. Additionally, the dealership from whom you purchase your new vehicle should also have a great supply of the newest and hottest Renault vehicles from a hatchback to a coupe to everything in between. By offering their customers a great selection of these top of the line vehicles, it can set any given dealer apart from their competition. Too, service after the sell is also going to be one of the factors that sets dealerships apart from each other. It is important to find a dealer that is not only reputable, but one who is also superior in their customer service. It is the combination of both of these aspects that is going to propel one dealer over the other and create an atmosphere where customers can be delighted by the attention to detail and superior product selection.

Your Renault dealer should also have a reputable and trustworthy mechanic employed on site. The fact of life is that cars -- no matter how well built -- will need to have checkups from time to time to make sure they are kept in a perfectly running condition. Taking your vehicle to just any mechanic who may not be certified for the type of car you have is not a wise idea as they can actually do more damage to your engine and operating systems than not.

This is not to say they are bad mechanics, just that they may not have the experience in working on your particular type of vehicle, this is why it is important to be able to take your car to the mechanic at the dealership to ensure the proper parts are used should you find yourself needing maintenance. All in all, the things you are looking for in your new car -- reliability, superiority and reputation -- should also be used when determining which Renault dealer you should choose to buy your new car from.

As a brand, Renault suggests many different things to many different people. This is something that few brands, particularly vehicle brands manage to accomplish. Often a vehicle brand will be pigeonholed as creating one type of car or another and that branding often limits the appeal that a car released by that brand can have. There are some brands, like Ferrari, that have specialised and concentrated on one area of the car market to the exclusion of all others to make the best car of the sports car arena. In contrast Renault has made a name as a car manufacturer who is capable of creating good cars in a variety of different sections of the car market.

In addition to the cars that Renault produces for everyday use, there are the cars that Renault has created for the Formula 1 Grand Prix. This shows that Renault is more than capable of creating extremely high powered machines that can outperform some of the best in the world. That sort of versatility is often lacking from those companies whose companies produce cars which are highly regarded in segments of the market other than sports cars. The quality of the cars that Renault creates is consistently high and in all markets where the company is focused it is considered a leading brand.

Currently the Mégane Renaultsport R26 is topping the tables all over as it wins award after award for it's capability across the board. Not only is the general public flocking to buy it, motoring journalists are heaping more and more praise on it as time goes by. The unassuming Renault speedster allows those whose pockets aren't exceptionally deep to still experience the feeling of taking off like a rocket. The functionality is fantastic in the Renault and the form matches it point for point. Another fairly recent release that is gaining loyal supporters far and wide is the Clio Renaultsport 197.

The new concept car that has just been unveiled is the Renault Clio Grand Tour which is set to become the latest groundbreaking addition to the Clio III range of cars. It's classified as an estate, although noticeably less bulky than other cars classified in this group. The sleek lines and smaller dimensions of the Renault are mainly due to the fact that the car is a hybrid of estate and touring car. The size has not diminished the capacity of the car in any way and the 2.0 16 valve engine is put to very good use. This elevates the Renault Clio Grand Tour above its competitors in any grouping since the best aspects of the different groups are used in the creation of this hybrid that will make Renault proud.

A History of Renault - The Post War Years

Following the end of the Second World War the famous vehicle manufacturer Renault was taken over by the French government and became the Regie Nationale des Usines Renault. The nationalisation came after the founder of the company, Louis Renault, was charged with collaboration with the German occupation forces. Louis was to die in jail prior to his trial.

The new publicly owned company was headed by Pierre Lafaucheux and immediately made an impact in the peace time motoring market. The 4CV model proved popular, fighting off the challenge of foreign rivals such as the VW Beetle and Morris Minor, staying in production until 1961.

The 4CV's successor, the Dauphine, was also a resounding success in the home market. However, sales abroad failed to meet expectations especially across the Atlantic, and during the early 1960's both the Renault 4 and Renault 8 were rolled out. These models all had rear engines, but following the launch of the Renault 10, the company switched attentions to front engined upmarket models. In 1966 the world's first hatchback, the Renault 16 was introduced, followed by the smaller Renault 6.

With fuel saving measures being pursued due to the oil crisis of the early 1970s, the Renault 5, both smaller and more economical, was launched. Known as the R5, it stood the test of time for over a decade before being superseded by the Super5.

In an attempt to develop a presence in the United States and Canada, the company collaborated with American manufacturers such as AMC. But by the 1970s it was disappearing as a name in its own right in the American market. Despite this the company also developed markets and production in Eastern Europe, South America and Australia.

Heavy losses by the 1980s, when Renault were losing FFR12 billion per year, led to a restructuring of the company. Georges Besse was placed in control of the business and quickly initiated drastic cost cutting measures including slashing the workforce and reducing the companys involvement in motor sport. Besse was assassinated by the Action Directe terror group in 1986 and Raymond Levy was named as Renaults new head. Levy pursued similar measures to his predecessor and by the 1990s the company was healthy enough to launch a new range of cars of which the Clio enjoyed the greatest success.

In 1996 Renault was re-privatised, allowing it to further develop markets abroad. Three years later the company signed a deal with Japanese car maker Nissan which became known as the Renault-Nissan Alliance though both companies retained their separate corporate identities. Further developments saw Renault take a stake in the Russian car maker VAZ in 2008.
